Golestanian is Golden in Equestrian Canada Open Classic Benefit

Langley, BC — The Equestrian Canada Open Classic was an all-day affair Sunday, spanning sections held at the 1.0m, 1.10m and 1.15m heights.

The winner—determined by the fastest jump-off across the sections—wasn’t decided until the final few horses, as Summun Golestanian (CAN) rode his own Goldmine to the win. The special class benefits #WeRideTogether, a nonprofit organization created to cast light upon the endemic issue of sexual abuse in youth and amateur sports.

“It was a very competitive class with [more than 60] people in there, and there’s a good initiative behind it. It does make it feel extra special,” Golestanian said.

The top two finishers came out of the 1.15m section, as Golestanian finished just ahead of Robyn Kopala (CAN) and Calla PJ. Erin Wirch (CAN) and Concales finished third.

I executed [my] plan completely, and I actually did something that was not in the plan. I did five strides to the double, and that’s what made the difference,” Golestanian said.

Originally from Iran, Golestanian is now a Canadian citizen, residing in Vancouver. Training with Gary Brewster at Twin Oaks Farm in Richmond, BC, he’s been paired with his Belgian Sport Horse mare “Goldie” for four years.

“I imported her from Belgium four years ago. She’s 12 now. We have been through a lot of ups and downs together, but now she’s super happy at Twin Oaks,” he shared. “We’re enjoying our rides and our shows, and each round is just pleasant.”
