Dressage at Thunderbird Show Park!
Tbird is well know for its hunter/jumper show circuit but did you know they also host 2 gold dressage shows each year? The Touch of Class Show in June and the Pacific Regional Dressage Championships at the end of September draw all levels of riders from BC, Alberta and the states.
Dressage is a refined discipline showcasing the horse’s elegance and obedience. It’s often called “horse ballet” due to choreographed movements. The goal is to develop a responsive horse through precise movements. Judges assess obedience, harmony, and correctness. Dressage requires skill, subtle communication, and understanding. Training builds strength, flexibility, and trust. It’s the foundation for various equestrian disciplines. At the highest level, Grand Prix, intricate movements are performed. Dressage is a beautiful sport, highlighting the bond between horse and rider.
In 2023 Tbird is proud to be hosting 2 CDI Dressage shows. CDI shows are judged by FEI-qualified judges who assess the performance based on criteria such as obedience, suppleness, impulsion, and overall presentation. The scores are given on a scale from 0 to 10 for each movement, and the final scores determine the rankings.
These shows not only provide an opportunity for riders to showcase their skills and compete at an elite level but also serve as a platform to qualify for prestigious championships, including the Olympic Games and World Equestrian Games. We look forward to welcoming top riders to the show park for these exceptional shows!
