Con Amore is Spanish for “With Love.” But Francisco Lomelin’s fiery gelding by the same name brought something else entirely to Thursday’s CSI3* YETI Challenge 1.40m at Thunderbird Show Park: a need for speed.
The Mexican rider piloted the 8-year-old Polish-bred gelding to a decisive victory in the CSI3* Summer Fort Classic, clocking a jump-off time that shaved more than two and a half seconds off the mark set by Jeffrey Fields and Noble. Lomelin crossed the timers in 43.63 seconds, besting Fields’ 46.21-second effort.
The win marks the first international victory for the fleet-footed chestnut, who had just four international starts with Lomelin at the 1.40m level prior to this week’s tournament.
Charlie Jones and Casirado 3 rounded out the podium in third with the fastest four fault first round.
